In 1930 Hitler established the “Bund Deutsche Mädel” or BDM as the female branch of the Hitler Youth movement. Not until the Nazis came to power did the movement become popular, helped by the fact that soon all other movements were forbidden.

They were quickly nicknamed “The League of German Matrasses” because putting a lot of fit young girls close to a lot of fit young boys usually leads to interaction.
